Choosing to come to Abba House, meaning committing to a 12-month residential ministry, can be one of the hardest decisions a person makes, but one that can ultimately end in tremendous gain for her life and the lives of those around her.
We help by providing a safe place where addicted, abused or otherwise broken women can find God's love, forgiveness, peace and a new life.
We also provide training tools for the women in the program teaching them job and typing skills, helping them to obtain Microsoft Office Certification.
Microsoft Office Certification
Abba House is proud to announce that it will work with Florida-based K Alliance on providing computer training for the women in the program. Executive Director Jim Sharp reached out to K Alliance to see if they could help and they readily accepted the request and have provided e-learning for the women involved in the program. The women who are admitted here will have the opportunity to take computer based training classes on Microsoft Office 2007, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. This will enable them to have the needed computer skills that are required for most employers these days. The Goal is for them to be certified as Microsoft Office Specialists. These classes will highly benefit their lives after their stay here. K Alliance offers online computer training and cd-based tutorial videos to help you achieve your goals and includes hundreds of choices in class topics, such as IT Training, Desktop Office and Soft Skills. Their website is: http://www.kalliance.com.
How We Help the Family
We desire to help the whole family heal since the issues the addicted face often stem from the family. We have a time each Sunday where immediate family members can attend Family Group. During the family group sessions, families can learn how to communicate better and talk about issues that need to be discussed. This can be a perfect time to seek and give forgiveness. It is difficult to face personal shortcomings, but confessing them will set an example and encourage everyone to face and talk about their own failures. There may be times when quality or content of communications with some family members becomes counterproductive and the ministry team here will restrict contact or communications. Please understand that we are very supportive of family reconciliation.
How We Help the Community
Food Pantry—Windows of Heaven
Windows of Heaven is a food ministry serving Cumming, Dawsonville and the surrounding areas. Food is distributed to needy families every Thursday from 2-5 p.m. Paperwork must be filled out at cash register of thrift store prior to receiving food.
Thrift Store Vouchers
Also, the thrift store has a limited number of monthly vouchers given to families in the community who are in need of emergency assistance with items such as beds, couches, clothes, and household items.
Newspaper/Magazine Recycling Bin
We desire to partner with the community as much as possible to help make the community a better place. By having a recycling bin available to the community, we hope to draw support from the community and raise revenue for the ministry. The recycling container is located in front of the Abba House Thrift Store. The hours of recycling are anytime. Please come and bring your paper!
Types of paper that are not accepted are: laminated paper, carbon paper, wax covered paper, paper with crayon or glue, cardboard or cereal boxes, construction paper, brown paper bags or envelopes, poster board and plastic bags.
